Remote Learning Mission

There is no precedent for what school looks like in 2020-2021. The safety of our staff and students is at the root of every decision we have made to return to our buildings. Every state protocol has been followed. Our students’ safety is essential to their success and we take student success seriously.

Through DESE, the Fairhaven Public School’s has established a partnership with TEC Connections Academy Commonwealth Virtual School (TECCA) a virtual learning platform and can enroll students in a stand-alone, self-paced Learning Management System (LMS) populated with K-12 content.

Students who are enrolled in TECCA remain in the Fairhaven Public School District, while receiving Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks delivered by Massachusetts Certified Teachers remotely.

TECCA addresses the needs of all learners including those with IEP’s, 504’s and English Language Learners. These services and/ or accommodations will be provided by TECCA.

Elementary students experience 3 - 5 hours of learning per day, spending 10-15% of the learning day on their TECCA device.

Middle school students experience 5-6 hours of learning per day, spending 50 - 60% of the learning day on their device.

High school students experience 5-6 hours of learning per day, spending 80 - 90% of the learning day on their device.

While this platform does not depend on daily in person teacher-led instruction, all grade levels attend scheduled live lessons twice per week per course. Each lesson is recorded in case students cannot attend the live lesson at the scheduled time.

Remote instruction includes a “bundle” of core courses delivered live twice a week by a Massachusetts Certified Teacher.

Attendance will be based on weekly progress reports provided by TECCA to the District. Fairhaven PS will monitor progress based on the weekly reports to determine student attendance on a weekly basis. Progress is based on completing lessons and attending live lessons.

In order to comply with health and safety requirements, the Fairhaven Public School District has established a policy that sets a reasonable time period to plan for the transition of a student from TECCA to in-person/hybrid learning.

Should you find that TECCA is not a good fit for your family, parents/caregivers should anticipate a reasonable waiting period before students are able to change from remote to in-person/hybrid learning. Health and safety protocols have been established in each building that require planning in order to accommodate transitioning to the in-person/hybrid model.
