Hastings Middle School

Bienvenidos!
Welcome from Dr. Bonny L. Gifford
Principal
As a community of learners, we are committed to meeting the developmental needs of adolescents in a positive school climate, while maintaining high expectations for all students to meet rigorous academic standards. Through the use of best practice instructional strategies, a standards based curriculum, a variety of assessments, and creative learning experiences, our dedicated faculty engages students in learning experiences that encourage them to work in teams, think critically, and problem solve. Consistent with the middle school concept, students and teachers are organized into grade level teams, which help create small learning environments where supportive, mutually respectful relationships flourish. To meet the varied interests, boundless energy, and curiosity of our students, we offer an abundance of enrichment courses such as art, Spanish, chorus, band, Robotics, Instructional Technology, Whale of a Mystery, History’s Mysteries and Secrets, and Science Engineering Technology, as well as after school activities, clubs, and athletics.
We are excited about our work with adolescents and invite you to become a part of our learning community. When you think about it, any organization achieves excellence the same way; each individual person making a unique contribution to the best of his/her ability. In the words of H. E. Luccock, "No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it." Our school community can achieve our goals in similar fashion, but it takes the involvement, contribution, and positive attitude of each of us: staff, faculty, parent, student, and community member. Together we can achieve great success in our mission to ensure all children become lifelong learners.
“If your plan is for a year, plant rice. If your plan is for a decade, plant trees. If your plan is for a lifetime, educate children.”
- Confucius
