Hastings Middle School Library

The library is an important part of Hastings Middle School, as a source for books and information, as a gathering place, and as a computer lab with access to the Internet. Library programs reinforce the importance of the written word, develop research skills, and encourage reading for pleasure. Students may visit the library before or after school. All students are encouraged to use the library throughout the week. Currently we have Research Seminar classes for seventh and eighth grade students.
This class, held in the library, provides students with the opportunities that build on their technology and research skills. During class we try to integrate with their other classes as much as possible. We focus on research skills using both books and computer skills. Students should be familiar with internet searching strategies, how to evaluate different sites. They will be able to demonstrate the ability to use technology for research, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and innovation.
We recently held a Scholastic Book Fair to raise money for the library and earned $2,500. We had a very successful fair that provided many new titles which were added to our collection.
